Train Your Entire Staff for One Low Price!

Strong Fathers-Strong Families, LLC has worked over the past twenty five years training Head Start organizations to improve their father engagement efforts.

We have done in person trainings all over the nation and virtually in places around the world. Even it is a small part of training that is needed among all of the other training needs, we feel it is important. We know that our trainings have helped give an organization the momemtum they need to take their father and family engagement efforts to a whole new level.

In 2020 we all had to learn how to do a better job of training in a virtual environment. Strong Fathers pivoted HARD and built a set of skills and tools to make virtual training much more palatable and effective.

We have also realized that travel costs and time constraints have made it even harder to get family engagement folks the training that they have needed. From discussions with programs around the country we have developed a strategy to help train programs in a timely and affordable manner. We are providing a six webinar series that align with PFCE standards for professionals to learn about father engagement in chewable chunks that save time and money for programs.

Each session is 90 minutes long which will include a LIVE Q&A session with J. Michael Hall and any invited guests.

Webinar topics and learning objectives:

FOUR 90 minute Training Sessions plus two bonus sessions for added content and community building

  1. The WHY of Father Engagement:

WHY do we want to engage fathers in the education of their children?

Description:

This session moves beyond the "feel-good" reasons for father engagement and dives into the hard data. We explore the biological and developmental "Father-FULL-ness" that men bring to the table. This webinar establishes the foundation: we aren't engaging fathers to "help out" the program or the mother; we are engaging fathers because their unique parenting style is a primary driver of a child’s brain development and future success.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify the specific "bridge language" and exploratory play styles that distinguish paternal engagement from maternal engagement.

  • Analyze the statistical link between active father engagement and higher rates of student literacy, numeracy, and emotional regulation.

  • Articulate the "Father-FULL" vs. "Father-LESS" mindset to shift program culture toward a strengths-based approach.

  • Connect father engagement goals directly to the school readiness goals outlined in the Early Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework (ELOF), Parent, Family, and Community Engagement (PFCE) Framework, and Title I and Title III for public schools.

2. The HOW of Father Engagement:

HOW do we get dads to engage in our Father Engagement activities and programs?

Description:

If you build it, they may not come—unless you build it for dads. This session focuses on the "Science of the Invite." We examine how traditional school and early childhood environments often act as unintentional "gatekeepers" and how to break those barriers using gender-specific marketing, messaging, and personal recruitment strategies that speak to a father’s desire to be a hero and a provider for his child.

Learning Objectives:

  • Critique current recruitment materials to identify and remove "maternal gatekeeping" language and imagery.

  • Implement the "Personal Invite" strategy to build trust and bypass the common "gatekeeper" barriers in a child's home life.

  • Utilize "Side-by-Side" communication techniques that make men feel comfortable and respected in educational settings.

  • Develop a recruitment plan that utilizes all of the present channels in place to reach and teach more dads about their importance and your desire to partner with them.

3. The WHAT of Father Engagement:

WHAT do we do with dads to engage them effectively?

Description:

Many programs fail because they ask dads to come and sit in a circle to talk about feelings. Dads want to do something. This webinar focuses on high-impact, hands-on activities that align with literacy, numeracy, and STEM. We provide the blueprint for events where fathers and children work together, ensuring the father is the "facilitator of fun" and the "teacher of the task."

Learning Objectives:

  • Design hands-on, interactive experiences that allow fathers to demonstrate their strengths through building, innovating, and exploring.

  • Adapt existing Early Head Start and Head Start curriculum into "Father-ready" activities that require zero academic jargon but deliver high educational value.

  • Master the art of the "teaching through activities"—the 2-3 minute instructions that empowers a father to teach his child a specific skill during these simple activities.

  • Create "take-home" methods that allow fathers to replicate the learning success in their own living rooms or backyards.

4. The WHEN of Father Engagement:

WHEN do we offer programs that will be the most effective for fathers/families?

Description:

Timing is the most common reason for fatherhood program failure. This session addresses the logistical realities of working fathers. We discuss how to move beyond the "9-to-5" mindset to create a schedule that respects a father's work commitments while maximizing the impact of the time spent together.

Learning Objectives:

  • Analyze program data and employment trends to identify "Goldilocks Zones" for scheduling (not too early, not too late).

  • Evaluate the effectiveness of morning AND evening events to see which will appeal to your specific community demographic.

  • Establish a "less is more" frequency that prevents "family burnout" while maintaining consistent connection.

Bonus Webinars-

These webinars are included but are not necessary or mandatory to get the most value out of this offering. They are included if you continue to find value in the content and community.

B1: Getting Your Staff On Board

Description:

Father engagement is not the job of one "coordinator"; it is a whole-staff culture. This session provides the tools to get teachers, administrators, and even the front-desk staff to see themselves as "Dad-Ambassadors." We address common staff fears and biases regarding father engagement in the classroom and on site.

Learning Objectives:

  • Train staff to recognize and celebrate the "different but equal" way men interact with children in the classroom.

  • Develop a unified staff "elevator pitch" that welcomes and affirms fathers and father figures upon entry to the building.

  • Create a system of internal practice to ensure father-inclusive language is used in all family communications.

B2: Planning a Full Year of Father Engagement

Description:

Strategic planning is the key to integration. Instead of "islands of engagement," this webinar teaches you how to map out a 10-12-month calendar that pulses between father-specific events and integrated family engagement. We show you how to build a seasonal rhythm that keeps dads involved without overwhelming them.

Learning Objectives:

  • Design a "Four-Event Anchor" calendar that focuses on high-impact quarterly activities rather than low-impact monthly meetings.

  • Integrate father-specific sessions into larger "All-Family" strategy to ensure men feel seen within the broader community.

  • Align the annual fatherhood calendar with specific Head Start reporting cycles and PFCE outcome measurements.
